When I was eleven my dad bought me a Marlin .22 bolt action rifle. He handed me the owner’s manual, and said we will go shoot it when you know all the safety rules by heart. I notice in the owner's manual the rifle's schematic diagram looked similar to the instructions for building model airplanes, ships and race cars, which at the time I loved to build. One day I stashed a few screwdrivers in my bedroom and asked dad if I could clean my gun. He knew the gun was not loaded and said yes.
Later dad come to my bedroom to check on me. By that time, I had the gun apart and in pieces. He asked what are you doing and how are you going to get the gun back together? I told him I am cleaning it, and the instructions are in the owner’s manual. Since then, I have successfully worked on many family and friends guns as a hobby. I have enjoyed working on guns my entire life.
